2016 Fanzone Campaign

In 2016 I embarked on a month long email, twitter, media, petition blitz to try to help establish Fanzone's across the country for Wales first major international football competition in 58 years, the 2016 EURO's.  What followed was a whirlwind of grassroots support from fellow fans, media, politics, television, radio & print media.

Including appearances on:

  • BBC Radio Wales with Jason Mohammed

  • ITV Wales News

  • BBC One Wales

  • Presenting the Fanzone & Interview live on Sky Sports News

  • Sports Bible/Pepperami short documentary on Home Nation fans at
the tournament with over 750,000 views.

  • Over 1000 petition signatures

We also had vast online & print coverage throughout Welsh & UK media such as:

  • The Daily Mirror

  • The Daily Mail

  • The Guardian

  • The Sun

  • The Independent

  • The Irish Mirror

  • Wales Online

  • Even as far as some Italian sports media.

We helped encourage multiple zones in multiple locations, including Swansea, Merthyr, Penarth, Pontypridd, Newport & Cardiff. They all had huge success with over 70,000+ attendees over the course of the tournament across all venues (including the 20,000 semi final crowd at the Principality Stadium due to enormous demand).

There has already been fury at the lack of zones for these last playoff games, with Wrexham council already hinting at establishing one for the tournament. I will never forget the joy, hysteria, passion, community and National pride I experienced for those 5 weeks in Bute Park. Swaying, singing, crying, ecstatic oceans of people united by their National side. By their identity. This is the greatest era of Welsh Football EVER. We are Cool Cymru. The strutting underdogs. Utilize this moment & bring the Nation together again for this once in a generation experience. As Catatonia once said; "Every day when I wake up, I thank the Lord I'm Welsh".

TOGETHER STRONGER.
